They came from the North, they came from the Central and Southern areas of California, for one
reason, JESUS!!!! “A Generation Taking the Limits Off Of God”, was this year’s CDC PYPU State Youth
Convention theme which started from April 24 thru April 26, 2008. It was clearly evident to see the
theme resonate from the preaching, song and worship. The convention was kicked off, Thursday at
Bethlehem Temple by the honorable, Bishop Henry L. Johnson (Fresno,CA), Diocesan of the 16th
Episcopal District of the California District Council of the PAW.
Friday, the convention received a huge turnout from young people throughout the state of California.
Before service started nearly all the seats were gone!!! The Peace Apostolic Mass Youth Choir sang
an A & B selection ushering in the spirit of Jesus! Shortly, after the speaker Dr. Marvin Sapp (Grand
Rapids, MI) was introduced to speak. Many anticipated him to sing a few lyrics from his moving hit
song. after a few words he sang “Never Would Have Made It”. The room echoed with the voices of
1500 people singing in harmony. After he preached the word of God many young people came down
for salvation and prayer. What made this event special was the attendance and support of many
pastors along with the youth from their churches. Afterwards, the evening was closed with a concert
with a variety of up and coming gospel music’s finest like, “Undefeated”, “Catch 2” and Tammi
Haddon, among many others.
On Saturday, the services were truly anointed and the power of Jesus was definitely within our midst.
Several praises and recognition went out to many especially who worked so diligently to put this
together starting from our own CDC PYPU President, Min. Antwon Martin along with the CDC PYPU
Executive Staff. The Saturday speaker, Elder David Hollis (Gary, IN) preached a message of
encouragement. We learned how to express, “Awesome God” in sign language which he uttered
repeatedly throughout the service on that night. We shouted, we danced, we received deliverance
and prayer that night. In one word it was AWESOME.
So many young people left different from when they came. Even after it was over we took our praise,
our shout and our worship outside the USC Galen center. People walked to their cars rejoicing and
speaking in tongues as the spirit of God gave utterance. It was truly a blessing to me and I look
forward to the next youth event !!!!
